Solutions Sought For Route 117 Traffic Jams At Chappaqua Crossing

A planned left-turn lane from northbound Route 117 to Roaring Brook Road will not be ready in time for the Wednesday, Dec. 12 opening of Whole Foods, according to a lohud report. In response, developers are instead proposing an alternate temporary solution that would allow cars to pass without waiting for the turn, alleviating some of the traffic in the area.

Traffic has become a point of contention for residents and local officials alike, as construction and delays on the project have led to a small bottleneck for vehicles passing through the area, particularly during the evening commute. Cars looking to continue straight along the roadway continue to get backed up waiting for other motorists to make the left turn.

The entrance to Chappaqua Crossing off of Bedford Road is also closed until further notice due to construction, according to the New Castle Police Department in an advisory issued Wednesday, Nov. 28. As construction continues, officials warned that there will be heavy traffic in the area.

The Chappaqua Crossing redevelopment has been in the works for years. Earlier this year, dozens of apartments were opened, now they are beginning to fill the remaining space with retail locations, highlighted by the 40,000-square-foot Whole Foods market.
